Role Summary
The Project Manager Apprentice supports the Project Management team by assisting with budgeting, scheduling, procurement, subcontractor coordination, and change management. This role serves as a developmental position designed to build foundational project management skills through hands‑on exposure, structured guidance, and active participation in daily project operations. The Project Manager Apprentice contributes to documentation, organization, field coordination, and communication to support successful project execution according to KCS standards.
Core Responsibilities
Budget Monitoring
- Assists in tracking project costs and monitoring budget performance.
- Collects and organizes cost data for use in projections and reports.
- Communicates potential budget impacts to the Project Manager.
Schedule Drafting
- Supports the creation and updating of project schedules.
- Maintains schedule data and incorporates input from subcontractors.
- Assists in monitoring milestone progress and identifying delays.
Sub & PO Drafting
- Prepares subcontract agreements and purchase orders for review.
- Ensures draft documents align with project scope and budget assumptions.
- Organizes contract files and tracks execution status.
Procurement Assistance
- Supports procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Tracks delivery timelines and communicates updates to the project team.
- Helps organize quotes, submittals, and vendor correspondence.
Change Order Assistance
- Assists in preparing change order documents with scope descriptions and pricing.
- Tracks pending and approved changes in project logs.
- Supports communication of change order status to subcontractors and clients.
Key Measurables

Qualifications
- Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years of project management or role-related experience; or a combination of education and experience providing at least 3 years of competency in similar responsibilities.
